-Range map shows this species as just touching Alberta's southern border but not too far from Cypress Hills, where Sitting Bull hid from his enemies; there are many species of birds in this desert oasis!
-I suspect that an audible ID is rather difficult for the Mockingbird, who is a master at imitating other birds songs or even machine noises!
They are unique!! My one bird book says that songs of 36 other species were recognized from the recording of one mockingbird in Massachusetts!!! Quite an accomplishment! :) I hear that they're very territorial also....
I always spot them by the white patches on their wings and tail.
Do you know if the male and female northern mockingbird look alike?
-checked all my bird books found only the mention of "sexes- similar"; if you were around a male during courtship, he would be the one that rises high in a tree and then catapults downwards through the branches, to finally land on the ground!! Sounds like some males of our species! HA!
