-clicked on Tricolored Heron and then Googled- Nummy Island because it was Nummy Island! :-)
-am always astounded at the wealth of information and organization around birding in New Jersey!
I love watching the herons! I'm not to interested in all of the shore birds. Plovers, sandpipers, gulls, those things. I do enjoy watching them, but I can't ID most of them.
-Tawny- I suspect that proximity to major waterways helps in developing an interest in shore and sea birds; New Jersey is also in a major flyway where a majority of the other birds pass through during migration.
You're right, Jim. I live in St. Louis, in the middle of the woods, so obviously I don't get the shorebirds here. I do get bitterns and herons, though. I mostly see American Bitterns, Little Blue Herons, Green Herons, Great Egrets, Great Blue's, and American Pelicans (sometimes). I like the Egrets and Herons, but like I said, the other shore birds aren't as appealing to me.
