-wish the guys would show themselves in our backyard; we've had the female, usually each season, but the male is no where to be found!

Actually, I have been told that they are Red Crossbills, not Purple Finches. I did have Purple Finches earlier on in the week.

-I missed the Crossbills as well; my comments above were for your original posting of Purple Finches; I haven't seen Red Crossbills since 1991.
